Welcome to Orange Class!

The adults who work in Orange Class are Mrs Sawdon, Mrs Carr, Mrs Aftab, Mrs Ali and Mrs Speight.  Mrs Carr teaches Orange Class on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Mrs Sawdon is in class Wednesday to Friday.

Every morning we start the day with Phonics, using 'Read Write Inc' to help us learn to read and write.  In Orange Class we have PE on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.  We have our Golden Time on Friday afternoons; this is when we get to choose a fun activity to take part in as a reward for our fantastic behaviour! We have started our year by choosing our class rules and drawing up a class charter showing everybody how we behave in Orange Class.  We decided that we will:

  • Look after our classroom.
  • Be kind.
  • Be helpful.
  • Try our best.
  • Have fun!

Our topic this half term is Geography based. We are learning all about our school and our local area.  So far we have explored the school grounds and building and found rooms that we didn't even know existed!  We have drawn maps of our school and our classroom.  The children have found their houses on a map of the local area so we can see how near to or far from school everybody lives.  Before Christmas we will explore the local area further and think about what businesses, houses and leisure activities are nearby and what other things we can find in Wakefield.

In Science we have been thinking about the seasons especially Autumn and Winter.  We went on a hunt around school and found lots of signs that show us Autumn is here and the children have all painted an Autumn tree.  We have also been thinking about our body and our senses.  As part of this we have made skeletons out of art straws and learnt a song all about our body.  We have also been exploring our different senses including our sense of smell. Here are some photos of the children trying to guess what they were smelling.

We are currently reading the story of The Stickman and doing lots of writing based on the story.  We're also going on a special stickman adventure in Thornes Park.  Here are some photos of the stickmen that we made!

This half term we have done a project to design a healthy breakfast.  We looked at lots of different types of fruit - frozen, dried, fresh and canned.  We tasted the fruit and decided which we liked the best.  Lots of the children were surprised to discover that they really like dates!  We also taste tested some different flavours of yogurt.  Finally we practised our chopping skills before designing and making a healthy yogurt and fruit breakfast pot.
