Welcome to Yellow Class!
The adults working in Year 2 are Miss Johnson, Miss Kenney and Mrs Speight.
We have recently started a morning project which involves the children reading exciting books. The aim of the project is encourage independence, develop reading skills and provide opportunities for children to enjoy real books. Every child reads in a small group with the teacher at least once a week. Other activities include independent reading, comprehension work and spelling and grammar activities.
Year 2 have outdoor PE every Tuesday and indoor PE every Friday.
Now that the SAT's are over, Year 2 are accessing the continuous provision areas most afternoons. They are set challenges, such as designing their own football game and making up their own spelling challenges. The aim of the challenges are to encourage creativity and independence and to provide opportunities for children to really embed the skills and knowledge they have been taught this year, ready for Year 3.
Roots of The Mount
The whole school have been taking part in our 'Roots of The Mount' project. Year 2 have been using the school environment as a stimulus for creative writing. We have interviewed Mrs Wilsher ( The old Deputy Headteacher) about the history of the school. We have been creating aerial view plans of the classroom and school from now and then. We are currently writing a 'Guide to our School' for new pupils, parents and staff. Next week we will be exploring Thornes Park and creating a brochure to encourage others to visit.
