Y4 2020-21

Welcome to Year 4's class page!

The adults in class are Mr Haigh and Mrs Gomersell. Also, we’re lucky enough to have Bex for French and Mrs Garside for violins.

In our first few weeks, we have been working extremely hard. In Maths, we have been learning all about four digit numbers, including expanding numbers, putting them in ascending order and placing them on a number line to 10,000. In English, the children have been trying very hard to achieve their first class targets. In addition, we have started reading the hilarious Mr Stink by the David Walliams. We have also read The Creakers and The Nothing to See Hear Hotel.

As a class we agreed the rules for our class charter and everyone signed it. Have a look at our charter to see if you can spot your signature and remind yourself of the rules.

Our topic for autumn was Victorians. We have researched facts about Queen Victoria using the iPads, drawn in the style of William Morris and made thaumatropes, which are Victorian toys.

Remember, our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Children can wear their PE kit to school on these days. I will post spellings on Dojo on a Monday and challenge the children to learn these by Friday.

Have a look at this tv advert made by Isobel and Stanley using iMovie. It's to warn the public about a peculiar creature that has escaped their department. This was inspired by the book 'The Lost Thing' by Shaun Tan.

We have a new display! Outside our classroom is a wonderful display of all the children in Blue Class with their favourite book and why they chose it.  Can you see yours and is there a book you like the sound of?

As part of our topic work, the children have been investigating hieroglyphics. They carved some of their favourites in clay using different tools to create different effects. Have a look at the results below.

Thanks to Miss Davies, now Year Four has a cosy Book Nook. From an overflowing cupboard to a smart reading corner, this is a quiet and inviting area dedicated to reading your favourite novels and authors.
