Design & Technology

The subject leader for D&T is Mrs Brookwood.

Our DT curriculum builds upon the National Curriculum; it has been constructed to enable pupils to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that are relevant to themselves and others.  Progression of skills, knowledge and techniques build up through Key Stage 1, Lower and Upper Key Stage 2 as they take on increasingly challenging design and engineering problems. Our approach incorporates our core values of Reason, Resilience and Respect to enable our pupils to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.   Pupils also learn how to critique and evaluate their own and others’ work.

Cooking and nutrition is an important element of D &T. We want our pupils to understand the elements of healthy nutrition and why it is important to them. We have a dedicated kitchen for pupil use, in which children can mix and cook their food and drink designs.  Having a school allotment means we can also use some of our home-grown produce!
