Our Curriculum
Our leader for whole-school curriculum is Mrs Eastwood.
All of our teachers are also subject leaders. Visit our subject pages to the leaders of each subject.
Subject leaders receive dedicated time each week to work on the subject leadership duties, to help support teachers and pupils in getting the best outcomes for their subject.
Our Curriculum Intent
At The Mount, we use a bespoke curriculum package in order to provide our children with the very best, most relevant, engaging curriculum. We know our children and our community and understand that one size doesn't fit all.
Our curriculum plans set out how we cover the National Curriculum. Staff have carefully planned what content should be covered at what point in a pupil’s journey through school so that they can reach an ambitious end point, ready to take their next steps into Key Stage 3 and beyond.
Through our ambitious curriculum and exciting first-hand experiences, children will gain the knowledge, skills and firm foundations needed to understand their place in the world, whatever their starting points. We aim to foster independence, resilience and ambition in children, helping them to achieve their best academically, emotionally and socially.
We want children to see the endless possibilities in their futures, aspiring to change the world into what it could be.
Our core values of Reason, Resilience and Respect are woven through our curriculum.
The delivery of the curriculum is enriched through first-hand experiences, school theme weeks and community events.
High Standards of Teaching
Quality learning comes from high quality teaching. At The Mount, we invest in our teaching staff.
Music: A specialist teacher from Wakefield Music Services teaches ukulele and guitar to Years 4 and 5. Wakefield Music Services provide support and CPD for other teacher in their teaching of music (using Charanga).
French: Lingotot, an award-winning languages provider, teaches French to KS2 children. Children are being taught French to an extremely high standard, by a fluent French speaker, leaving children more than prepared for their start to KS3 modern foreign languages.
PE: We use the services of Mrs Rice (F&R PE) to teach PE across school for one lesson per week (half termly rotation). Mrs Rice is a qualified teacher with years of experience in a secondary setting. Class teachers work alongside Mrs Rice to gain knowledge and skills for their own teaching.
Our PE leader, Mrs Brookwood, also works alongside less-confident teachers as part of her role.
Forest School: Our Forest School sessions are led by Mrs Bartram. The sessions give children to gain experience of the 'great outdoors' through activities such as knot-tying, den-building and potion-making. Mrs Bartram extends these experiences into our playtime provision (R-Y6) and classroom continuous provision (Nursery to Year 1).
